A Life Cut Short: The Tragic Story of Marigold Churchill
The Fourth Child of a Statesman
Marigold Churchill, the fourth child of Clementine Hozier and Sir Winston Churchill, was born just four days after the Armistice ending World War I. Her short life was marked by both joy and tragedy.
A Grieving Family
Marigold died of septicemia on August 23, 1921, at the tender age of two. Her death devastated her family, particularly her mother, who wrote in her diary, "My heart is broken."
Marigold was initially buried in Kensal Green Cemetery in London. However, in 1985, her remains were reinterred in the Churchill family plot at St Martins Church in Bladon, Oxfordshire.
The simple grave in Kensal Green Cemetery serves as a poignant reminder of the brief life of Marigold Churchill, a child who was dearly loved and whose premature death left an enduring mark on her family.
