Bill Cobbs: Versatile Character Actor Dies at 89

Prolific Star Known for 'The Color Purple,' 'Demolition Man,' and 'Night at the Museum'

Bill Cobbs, a prolific character actor whose half-century career bloomed while he was middle-aged and ranged from Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" to the "Night at the Museum" franchise, has died. He was 89.

Cobbs died on Monday, June 26, 2024, in Los Angeles, his daughter Emily Cobbs told The Associated Press. The cause of death was complications from Alzheimer's disease, she said.

Cobbs, who was born in Cleveland on June 16, 1934, served in the Air Force for eight years and worked at IBM and as a car salesman before pursuing acting in his 40s.
